Things to do in and around Keswick

Keswick is arguably the best base in the Lake District for a range of activities, both in the town itself and out on the local fells and lakes.

The town has a wide range of cafes, restaurants and pubs and there is a huge choice of shops selling outdoor equipment. Virtually any item of outdoor clothing to suit all budgets can be found in the town centre shops. The pedestrianised main street hosts a traditional street market on Thursday and Saturdays, outdoor cafes and a tourist information centre at the Moot Hall.

Across the road from Hillcrest22 Guest House is the beautifully maintained Hope Park with its stream, flower gardens and arboretum as well as crazy and mini golf.

Possibly the jewel in the crown for entertainment in Keswick is the highly reviewed Theatre by the Lake which is less than 5 minutes walk from Hillcrest Guest House. A full season of productions, talks and special events such as ‘Words by the Water’ see www.theatrebythelake.com  for further details of the programme.

Throughout the year Keswick hosts events such as the Words by the Water Literary Festival, Jazz Festival, Mountain Festival, Film Festival and the Victorian Fayre.
